SAPD received a 911 call regarding a Domestic Violence incident in the 2000 block of Benedict Circle. When officers arrived on scene, both the man & woman there denied that anything happened and both said the other one had called 911.
The man kept introducing himself as a Deputy US Marshal. He could not produce credentials when asked, saying he left them in Miami, FL where he was assigned. When additional officers arrived, he again repeatedly introduced himself as a Deputy US Marshal.
After denying repeated requests for his credentials, he eventually admitted that he was lying and he was not a member of the Marshal's Service. Not finding any evidence of any type of domestic violence, the man was arrested for Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer and Obstructing an Officer. His name is William Dempsey. He's 45 years old and is from Milton, WV. The woman in the residence is his girlfriend.
A Deputy from the local US Marshal's office was contacted and provided the details on this arrest. That agency will consult with the local US Attorney's office regarding Dempsey.
