Grab & Run theft from 3rd Street Go Mart

SAPD was dispatched to the 3rd Street Go Mart in St. Albans on Monday, 10/26 @ about 10:55pm regarding a man that grabbed cash from an open cash register. He went into the store & asked for change for the bus. When the clerk opened the register and grabbed a small amount of cash in bills from the register.
The above images were captured from the surveillance system of Go Mart. He was last seen fleeing on foot in the alley behind the store going east towards 4th Street.

2 vehicle crash injures one

At about 7:35 am, a two-vehicle crash on US 60 sent one man to the hospital. A car driven by Jeremy Morgan (23 yoa from St. Albans) pulled out of Cody Street into the path of a truck driven by David Agosti (47 yoa from St. Albans).

Morgan was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Agosti was not injured.

Sgt. Mike Dlugos is investigating.

 

Distrurbance leads to felony arrest

Early on the morning of 10-18-2009, Lt. Mike Matthews of SAPD heard a disturbance at Mel's Bar located on Old Main Plaza behind SAPD HQ. As he approached, he saw a male and female arguing. Lt. Matthews witnessed the male place a revolver in his pocket. Further investigation revealed that the male didn't have a permit to carry a concealed firearm, so he was placed under arrest.

Arrested was Donell William Edwards (27 yoa from Charleston). While being processed at the station, a criminal history showed he is a convicted felon. He has twice been convicted of wanton endangerment with an explosive in 2003 and in 2001. Mr. Edwards has now been charged with being a Felon in possession of a Firearm.

Mr. Edwards is currently out on federal probation for those convictions.

 

Traffic stop yields stolen gun

Ptl. Philip Bass pulled over a car for speeding on US 60 in St. Albans on Friday night at a little after 9pm. After smelling marijuana, the resulting search of the car yielded a Sig Sauer 9mm behind a fold-down rear seat.

The passenger admitted the gun was his. He said he'd gotten it for protection after he was recently robbed. A check of NCIC revealed the gun was stolen in Raleigh, NC in October 2000. The passenger was arrested for Transferring/Receiving Stolen Property and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

The passenger is Shawn Price (20 yoa from Dunbar). The gun was loaded.

The driver was cited & released.

 

2 vehicle crash @ Walnut St & US 60

At about 5:15 pm, SAPD received a call regarding a two-vehicle crash at the intersection at Walnut Street & US 60. A car driven by Lindsay Johnson (26 yoa from So. Chas.) was attempting to stop to keep from hitting a car turning onto Walnut Street. She reported that she was hydroplaning on the wet roadway, so she swerved into the adjacent lane.

She swerved into the path of a car driven by Robin Ramey (45 yoa from Chas). To avoid the collision, Ms. Ramey swerved and ended up striking a mini-van head-on in the turn lane of US 60. The driver of that van, Teresa Larue (37 yoa from St. Albans) was not injured.

Ms. Ramey was injured and was transported to a hospital by KC Paramedics. Her car went across traffic and struck a chain link fence at the DOH Garage. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The crash was caught on the dash camera of a Chas PD K-9 cruiser. The Chas PD officer was on the way to work. He called in the crash & assisted until SAPD officers arrived.

 

Molotov Cocktail thrown on top of home

Friday evening, October 9 at about 10pm, the resident at a home in the 1900 block of Adams Avenue reported small fire outside one of his bedroom windows. He said that he saw a flicker of light, and heard something impact on his roof. When he went to investigate, he discovered the fire. He quickly extinguished it and called 911.

Responding officers found two beer bottles filled with a liquid accelerant and a torn strip of fabric sticking out of the top. This is commonly known as a "molotov cocktail". One had been lit and one had not been.

The resident reports having no enemies or problems with anyone. A neighbor had reported a tire slashing the previous evening, but it is unknown if the events are connected.

Officers will be giving the area extra patrol.

If anyone remembers seeing anything suspicious near that time on Friday evening, please call SAPD.

 

Indoor Marijuana Cultivation

Early this morning after assisting the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department on an arrest warrant at a residence on 7th Avenue in St. Albans, SAPD officers developed information regarding marijuana being cultivated inside that home. The KCSD had also received a tip about the cultivation. The SAPD representative to MDENT obtained a search warrant and discovered about 15 plants that had been pulled from 17 bucket inside a locked room.

The grow operation had been wired with heat lamps, fans, timers, and a watering system.

During the initial warrant arrest, Jake Alden (23 yoa from St. Albans) was arrested on an unrelated robbery charge by deputies. He will be charged in connection with cultivating marijuana as well.

Alden's mother, Debbie Alden (53 yoa from St. Albans) was arrested this afternoon. Also arrested was her fiance that lives with her. His name is Donal McDaniel (39 yoa from St. Albans). Both were charged with cultivating marijuana.

All of them live in the residence in the 800 block of 7th Avenue in St. Albans.

The will be arraigned by a Kanawha County Magistrate.
