 A little after 10pm on Friday, Sept 25, SAPD was dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Poplar Drive. When officers arrived, one of the males in the home was detained. A record check on him revealed that he was wanted in North Carolina for Violating Probation. He was on probation for 24 months for an Assault charge that appears to have been domestic related. Arrested was Ronnie Lee Prater (33 yoa lately of St. Albans). He is charged as a Fugitive From Justice. During processing, he shoved an officer, so he was also charged with Battery on a Police Officer. He was taken to the South Central Regional Jail to await arraignment.

 On September 20, 2009 at approximately 1142 hours Ptl. Philip A. Bass stopped a car for having an expired inspection sticker. Stopping the car at Roadside Park, he noticed the driver started shaking and breathing heavily. A subsequent check through NCIC the driver was wanted in in Florida for a Probation Violation. He was on probation for Possession/Distribution of Chemicals to Manufacture Substance. Arrested was: Douglas Joe Schott Jr. from Winter Haven, Florida. He is 26 yoa. He was taken to the South Central Regional Jail pending extradition proceedings.

 On 9-14-2009 shortly after 2:00am, two suspects broke into Aaron's Rents at the St. Albans Mall shopping center. They broke in through a rear door, but the alarm quickly was triggered and the suspect fled before any property can be stolen. As can be seen in the image above, a mask was worn over the face. If anyone has any information as to the identity of the offenders, please contact the SAPD at 727-2251

Dennis Lottig (33 yoa from St. Albans) was arrested today after being identified by surveillance video stealing security cameras from the drive-thru lane of City National Bank (412 6th Avenue in St. Albans). The incident happened at about 11:19 pm last night (9/13) and 3:24 am on (9/14). He was charged with Grand Larceny. Four cameras were taken valued at $1900 each. Sgt. P. C. Smith knew the suspect by sight. He was later seen on the parking lot of the St. Albans Post Office. All the cameras were recovered. It is unknown if they are damaged beyond repair.

 Erika Burke Today, at about 8pm, SAPD officers and SAPD's Metro Drug Unit representative acting on a tip, checked a home on Edgehill Drive in St. Albans. After receiving a consent to search from the homeowner, meth making materials and evidence of a fresh lab was found hidden on the premises. Arrested, was the homeowner, Erika L. Burke (35 yoa from St. Albans). Also arrested was her boyfriend, Basil Workman (26 yoa from St. Albans) and her ex-boyfriend, Joshua Simpson (31 yoa from St. Albans). All 3 were living at that home. All will be charged with the conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

SAPD officers will be wearing black ribbons in honor of Ptl. J. A. Jones of Charleston PD. Two of our officers attended the state police academy with Ptl. Jones and they both held him high esteem. One of those officers is a fellow Marine Corps veteran of Iraq. We ask everyone to join us in thoughts & prayers for the family of Ptl. Jones and for the Charleston Police Department. Two children were struck by a car in the 900 block of Zerkle Street earlier today. At a little after 4pm, Isaiah (age 6) and Ethan (age 8) Hazlewood ran out in to the street from behind a parked car and were struck by a car driven by Marie Stephenson (90 yoa from St. Albans). The children were taken to Thomas Hospital with minor injuries. No charges are expected to be filed.

At about 6pm on 9/8/2009 two cars collided at the intersection of US 60 & 2nd Street. Jennifer Musilli (24 yoa from Cross Lanes) collided with a car driven by Charles Saunders (47 yoa from Cross Lanes). Both drivers were taken to hospitals. Mr. Saunders to Thomas Memorial. Ms. Musilli and her 5 year old daughter who was a passenger, were taken to CAMC General. None of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening.

At about 8:50 am on Sept 7, 2009, a Pontiac Bonneville driven by Richard Inman (59 yoa from St. Albans) lost control & rolled several times in the area of US 60 @ Alameda Street. Mr. Inman stated that he was suffering from sleep apnea. Witnesses said that the vehicle had drifted into the oncoming traffic lane before hitting a utility pole & rolling several times. Mr. Inman was treated by KC paramedics, but declined transport to a hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.

 SAPD received a call on 9/5/2009 at about 0212 am regarding a domestic assault in the 900 blk of Sutherland Drive. The suspect had left the scene in a car prior to officer's arrival. SAPD broadcast a description of the car to other officers. Nitro PD officer, Ptl. R. L. Clay spotted the suspect car (a black Dodge Neon) in Nitro at about 2:19 am. The suspect initially stopped then took off. A pursuit went from Nitro to Dunbar on Rt 25, across the Toll Bridge into South Charleston, then to St. Albans. The suspect eluded police on Kanawha Terrace near Central Elementary School. The pursuit lasted about 15 minutes. SAPD received information that the suspect may flee to his bosses house on Cleveland Ave in St. Albans. At about 3:12 am, officers went there and discovered the suspect there and refused to come out. Officers discovered that the suspect was there and had retreated into room and refused to come out. After about 15 minutes, officers persuaded the suspect to surrender. Arrested was Jason Scott Morris (30 yoa from St. Albans). He will be charged with Nighttime Burglary for going into his boss's home. The Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office was consulted and numerous other misdemeanor charges will be forthcoming. Officers from Nitro PD, South Charleston PD, and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department provided essential assistance in this incident. Ptl. P. A. Bass is the investigating officer.

   At about 3:35 pm, two cars crashed on US 60 in the area of Love Lexus-Toyota. A Toyota driven by Mary Greenlief (76 yoa from Elkview) pulled out from Love Lexus-Toyota on to US 60 in the path of a Dodge pick up driven by Johnny Parsons (38 yoa from Nitro). Both cars were severely damaged. Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. Sgt. Mike Dlugos is investigating.

Bonnie Ann Lovejoy (53 yoa from St. Albans) was in her wheelchair going south on B Street when she was struck by a car driven by Lola Walters (63 yoa from St. Albans). Ms. Walters was turning off of Kanawha Terrace in the loop area of St. Albans when she hit Ms. Lovejoy. Ms. Lovejoy was taken to CAMC General for treatment. Ms. Walters was not injured. The crash is still under investigation. The time of the crash was at about 3:50 pm today.
