Early on the morning of 10-18-2009, Lt. Mike Matthews of SAPD heard a disturbance at Mel's Bar located on Old Main Plaza behind SAPD HQ. As he approached, he saw a male and female arguing. Lt. Matthews witnessed the male place a revolver in his pocket. Further investigation revealed that the male didn't have a permit to carry a concealed firearm, so he was placed under arrest.

Arrested was Donell William Edwards (27 yoa from Charleston). While being processed at the station, a criminal history showed he is a convicted felon. He has twice been convicted of wanton endangerment with an explosive in 2003 and in 2001. Mr. Edwards has now been charged with being a Felon in possession of a Firearm.

Mr. Edwards is currently out on federal probation for those convictions.
