Jennifer M. Johnson was detained at the St. Albans K-Mart for concealing make-up in her purse. SAPD was contacted and after a record check, she was arrested for 3rd offense Shoplifting. Ms. Johnson's record indicated that she'd been convicted of 4 previous 1st Offense Shoplifting charges and one previous 3rd Offense Shoplifting charge to which she served prison time for among other felony charges.
Ms. Johnson (35 y.o.a. from Nitro) was taken to Kan Co Magistrate Court where she was given a Personal Recognizance bond by the magistrate.
On April 7 at about 1045 am, SAPD responded to Thomas Memorial Hospital regarding a deceased infant. Ptlm. B. Tagayun was met by investigators from the State Medical Examiner's Office who believed that the infant was the victim of abuse that caused the death.
Investigators from the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation were called and conducted the investigation. An autopsy was performed by the State Medical Examiner's Office, the results of which revealed the child, Ayden White (two days shy of being 2 months old) died of "an abusive closed head injury".
This evening, KBI investigators have arrested the boy's mother, Zerlinda C. White (23 years old from St. Albans) for Child Abuse Resulting In Death, a felony punishable by 10-40 years. The incident occurred at a residence in the 2700 block of Kanawha Terrace. She has yet to be arraigned.
